Grade 9
Students continued to work on their movie review critical thinking questions and posters. This project was finished on that date.

Grade 8.

Lesson summary -Grade-9 (20/04)

Grade 9.

Students were still working on their posters and questions about the movie review 'Something The Lord Made' which is based on a true story about the first blue baby heart operation conducted by Dr Blalock and his Negro assistant Vivian Thomas. This movie also showed how Vivien who finally given a honorary doctor's title in the field of medicien (specifically heart research),was at first not acknowledged by the colleagues he mentored.

Below are the guiding questions for this movie review:

Movie review:‘ Something The Lord Made’

(Work with a partner).

1. Create an associated concept of the science involved in the movie ‘Something the Lord Made’ with the Protagonists’ life and a moral overview of the whole situation.

2. Summarize the scenes from the beginning of the story till the end in the form of pictures and captions in a poster.

3. Why wasn’t Vivian recognized in the same respect as the other doctors in this story?

4. What do you think about race discrimination? Why?

5. Do a research about ‘The blue baby operation’ done by Dr Blalock and Vivian Thomas in the late 1930’s and create a sketch of comparison between a normal heart and a sick heart (Blue baby’s heart).

Lesson summary -Monday (20/04/09)-Grade 8

Grade 8
On Monday (20/04), grade 8 students learned about Zero, first, second and third Conditional verbs. The importance of learning this grammar topic is so that students will be able to write about situations in the present and past that is true and also about hypothetical situations in the present and its future consequence and also a Hypothetical situation in the past which is not possible to be changed.

After understanding the grammar points, students were asked to practice from their work book Unit 9 . The practice was done in partners to enhance peer discussion activity and the topics were about; Matching sentences and pictures, completing sentences with the correct form of verbs and crossword puzzle.

Grade 9 (lesson summary -15/04/09)

Grade 9 students were asked to do the following exercise in order to recognize literary elements in a drama;

  • Recognize plot development (e.g., rising action, turning point, falling action) and other dramatic elements such as theme, language, empathy, and motivation.
  • Explain how the elements of drama are used to create dramatic works.
  • Compare and contrast characters, environments, and actions in theatrical presentations from a variety of media.
  • Use appropriate terminology to review one’s own and others’ works and constructively suggest ways to improve collaborative artistic processes (e.g., planning).

Students learn to answer critical thinking questions and create a diagram about a healthy heart and a blue baby’s heart. The objective of doing this writing work is to incorporate the subject of science in English by making a written comparison of a healthy heart and a blue baby’s heart The students were also asked to work on their movie review posters 'Something the Lord Made' and answer structured questions about morality connected to race discrimination and to help them write a thesis about the story in their own words.

The objective of having this lesson is to enhance students' spiritual understanding about morality connected to race discrimination and to help them write a thesis about the story in their own words.

Friday (03/04/09)-Field Trip.

On Friday, 3rd of April, 09,all the secondary section students went for a field trip to Jatiluhur Dam (Purwkerta)to strengthen the knowledge that they have learned at school about Science (Energy), Geography(Renewable and non renewable energy) and Mathematics.The students were back from their field trip at 4.40 pm.
