GRADE 7B -ENGLISH PRACTICAL EXAMINATION PREPARATION

English Oral Examination

Topic: Graffiti Art

Mode of presentation:

1. Students prepare their Graffiti art poster in groups and show it to the class. Then each student in the groups must share something about it for 3 – 5 minutes. The criteria for grading are based on; VOCABULARY, CONTENT / CONVERSATIONAL APPROPRIACY / CREATIVITY, GRAMMAR / STRUCTURE, PRONUNCIATION/FLUENCY.

2. Students have to face the whole class while doing their presentations.

3. Students are allowed to use palm cards during the oral presentation. If they read from any notes, their instructor will automatically take off at least 10 points from the overall oral presentation grade. No notes other than the handout/outline are permitted

Guiding questions:

1. What is Graffiti art? Is it vandalism?

2. What kind of people do this and why?

3. What's your opinion of graffiti in general? Does it have artistic merit (or worth)or is it a nuisance?

4. What's the funniest graffiti you've ever seen?

5. Explain in your own words the idea, techniques, spray, color, and the materials used for creating your poster.

6. Was it easier to do the work in groups or on your own? Why?

7. Is there any Graffiti in your home town or city?

8. What have you gained from this oral assignment preparation? Have you learned something out of it?

  7. The environment in relevance to the green house gasses.

Topics other than the above must be discussed with the teacher first.

Lesson summary (14/05/09) -Grade 7b/ grade 8 & Grade 9.

Grade 7b

Students were working on unit 9 and 10 ( review and practice of reading and grammar)

Grammar practice- Conditional 1 & 2 and the 'Wish' clause.
After that they were doing research for their story writing activity ; Dorian Grey, Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde and Frankenstein.

Grade 8

Students were working on their formal letter assignment and after that the class reviewed their pretest test papers for final exam preparation.

Grade 9
Students continued to finish their oral test in groups of 3 and 4. Each student were asked to talk for a duration of 3 to five minutes.

Students were put in groups to prepare for their Oral tests. The topics given were:

Topic:Understanding Formal letter.

Teacher explain how a formal letter is made by making a sketch of the formal letter on the white board and students were asked to re explain the concept and create a formal business letter with the teacher's guidance and worksheet sample. The objective of this lesson is to prepare students for their final examination.

Lesson summary of grade 8 & 9 on the 4th of May,09 (Monday)

Grade 9

Students learn about parallel structure with paired conjunctions. The aims and objective of the lesson is to help students create good sentences using equal structures with the correct coordination of words.

Please see sample of sentence forms;

1. Conjunctions (And,But,Or)

1. He discussed the problem with the nurse and the doctor.

Two nouns: nurse and doctor joined by the coordinate conjunction ‘And’

2. The professor was knowledgeable but boring.

Two Adjectives joined by the coordinate conjunction ‘But’.

3. She hikes, jogs, or rides her bicycle whenever she can.

Three verbs are joined by the coordinate conjunction ‘Or’

2. Paired conjunction and parallel structure sentences.

The paired conjunction both…..and, either….or, neither…..nor and not only…..but also , require parallel structure.

  1. The lecture was both informative and enjoyable.
  2. Either the history exam or the physics exam is on Tuesday.
  3. The missing papers are neither on his desk nor in the file.

Students were having an English test on writing, reading, and multiple choice to prepare them for their final exam.

Grade 8

Continue with their movie 'The Legend of the Leprechauns' to prepare for a summary and to answer movie review questions.

Grade 9

Final discussion about students' pretest papers in order to prepare them for their final English end year examination.

Lesson summary for Thursday (30/04) for grade 7b and grade 8

Grade 7b
Students learn to match pictures and answer grammar questions about Infinitives and Gerund and did reading, discussions and answer questions. After that the students continued to work on their Graffiti posters for their oral presentations next week.

Grade 8

The class was discussing Grammar (Future perfect and future continuous) and also converting jumbled up words into proper sentences from unit 10. After that they watched a movie about 'The Legend of the Leprechauns'.

Grade 7b

This week, grade 7b students were given information about Gerund & Infinitives. After doing writing practice from book 3, students were able to work in groups in the library to discuss about Graffiti ( Is it a crime?). Students were given structured questions to prepare an oral presentation and a graffiti poster.

Grade 9

Students were discussing test paper questions and teacher was explaining some of the problems that the children faced.

Lesson summary for grade 8 and grade 9 (28/04/09).

Grade 9

On this day, grade 9 students did a pretest to prepare themselves for their final examination. In this test the students answered questions about more difficult reading, Idioms, sentence synthesis(structure) and comparing newspaper headlines of the same version with different problems (structured questions given). Almost 80 % out of 100 % of the students did well. I will still give them these kinds of practices to help them achieve perfection in English before they move to grade 10 in the new academic year (2009-2010).

Grade 8

Students were practicing their research about Nobel Prize winners and reading skills and were also asked to do unit check which comprised of: grammar, puzzles and matching sentences from unit-9 workbook. The objective of this lesson is to prepare students to speak and write better English sentences with proper vocabulary.

Topic:The man who conquered every peak in Europe. Students practiced on words and phrases, question & answers, true and false questions and vocabulary.

After discussing Conditional verbs. Students were doing cross word puzzle, matching sentences, vocabulary and combining sentences.
